| HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, MAESTRO GRIGORE!
in celebration of 50 years on stage |
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2 at 8 PM
THE KIMMEL CENTER - PERELMAN THEATER
For the eleventh consecutive year the Ama Deus Ensemble welcomes Romania's greatest contemporary pianist Dan Grigore. This year we celebrate 50 years of his piano career in the program entitled "Anniversary Gala with Dan Grigore" conducted by Valentin Radu.
Maestro Grigore, whose piano repertoire is extremely wide, covering a whole range of styles, will perform two of his favorite piano "fireworks": Grieg's magnificent Piano Concerto in a minor and Beethoven's Fantasy for Piano, Chorus and Orchestra which will be the evening's grand finale.
Dan Grigore's career in Romania and abroad was severely restricted because of his steady opposition to the Ceausescu regime. He has performed in the most important concert halls: Tonhalle - Zürich, "Tchaikovsky" Conservatory and "Tchaikovsky" Concert Hall in Moscow, the Great Hall of the Sankt-Petersburg Philharmonia, Palais "Rudolphinum" in Prague, "Queen Elisabeth" Hall - Antwerp, Palais UNESCO - Paris, CBSO - Birmingham, Auditorium Musical de Madrid, Gran Palau de Musica - Barcelona, Mozart Hall - Zaragoza, Gasteig - Munich, Schauspielhaus - Berlin, Bunka Haikan and "Casals" Hall in Tokyo, "Chopin" Hall in Jerusalim, to mention only some of them.
His activity for promoting young musicians is well-known and many of his former students have now succesful international careers. He has given master-classes and held conferences in Great Britain, Japan, Italy, he is a member of international juries and is frequently invited to prestigious international festivals. He has a growing discography and also a rich, steady publishing activity - essays, chronicles, interviews in cultural journals as well as Radio and TV talk shows.
The Ama Deus Ensemble will also pay tribute to Beethoven's choral music with three symphonic motets, including Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt (conclusion) Op. 112, an extremely rare opportunity for Beethoven fans to appreciate this lesser known genre of his legacy, in a live concert setting.
Don't miss the Anniversary celebration of this legendary artist!
$50, 40, 30, 20.
Tickets at The Kimmel Center Box Office (open daily 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

| VOX AMA DEUS RELEASES THREE NEW RECORDINGS! |
Our 2006-2007 Anniversary Concert Season XX closed on a high note: the release of three original recordings on the Lyrichord label (John Ostendorf, Producer). Each one is a remarkable representation of diversity of the programs that Vox Ama Deus has been bringing to life for the past 20 years.
Henry Purcell's DIDO & AENEAS. The first English opera-masque written in 1689 tells a story of love and betrayal of Carthaginian Queen Dido by the wandering prince Aeneas. America's most famous Early music soprano Julianne Baird (as Dido) along with the outstanding cast led by Valentin Radu have already won high critical acclaim for this recording production! Read DIDO & AENEAS reviews.
VERDI REQUIEM. Recorded live in the Perelman Theater of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Good Friday, April 6, 2007, Philadelphia, PA. Often referred to as Verdi's "best opera", this powerful and exciting performance was dedicated to the fallen heroes of Iraq and Afghanistan. Verdi REQUIEM becomes the first live concert recording by the Ama Deus Ensemble and the first live concert recording ever from the Perelman Theater! A true collector's item!
